Applying chemical disinfectants to areas as fogs or mists is a method used to create and disperse a disinfectant aerosol to reduce the numbers of airborne micro-organisms and also to apply disinfectant to surfaces that may be difficult to reach. Fogging is achieved using a mobile unit that produces fog at a set rate and droplet size. Unlike pressure misting fogging produces droplets with a diameter of less than 10 microns. Small droplets of this size are not quickly affected by gravity and so they are carried to every part of the room in air currents.
BAC based disinfectants are widely used in the healthcare and food production industries due to their combination of effectiveness and safety. BAC is a surfactant that destroys bacteria and virus upon contact.
Considerations
Ventilation
The room must be unventilated during the treatment and settling time. Windows, doors and other openings (e.g. fireplaces) must be closed off. HVAC or extraction systems should be switched off.
Surface Preparation
Surfaces such as tables, work top, bars etc should be cleared of objects such as mats, napkins, beer mats etc. that may prevent the fog reaching the surface. Surfaces should be wiped down and visually clean before starting the disinfection.
Special considerations – do not use in rooms that contain aquarium tanks. Remove any pets or animals from the room prior to disinfection.
